Aaron Katz – President and CEO
Aaron Katz brings over 20 years of diverse professional experience as President and CEO of Modus Hotels. With a JD-MBA degree from Georgetown University, Katz’s experience runs the gamut from tax accounting at Arthur Andersen, to advising Fortune 500 companies on mergers and acquisitions as a strategy consultant. His career in hospitality began while leading brand management and strategy as Vice President at Choice Hotels, the world’s second largest franchise company. As president and CEO at Modus Hotels, he has created a cohesive brand strategy and acquired and/or developed seven hotels since he took the reins in 2007. One of Katz’s top priorities as CEO is to cultivate strong executive leaders and a company that fosters learning and firsthand competitive research. When he is not at the office, he is swimming, biking, or logging miles on the C&O Canal Towpath in preparation for one of the six triathlons he competes in each year.
Adam Gollance – Chief Financial Officer
Adam Gollance brings a wealth of finance experience in the hospitality sector to Modus Hotels, overseeing ten hotels and a variety of other real estate holdings. Starting as an intern at Marriott International, Gollance excelled and was promoted to a variety of leadership positions within Marriott’s finance department, eventually as Vice President of International Finance. When Modus approached Gollance, he was intrigued by the smaller, entrepreneurial nature of the business, and enticed by the prospect of logging fewer miles overseas. Under his leadership, Modus has not only stabilized financially, but has grown to acquire four new hotels. A native New Yorker, Gollance began his career in commercial real estate at Cushman & Wakefield after earning a BA from the University of Michigan. Soon thereafter, he headed to the University of Maryland, College Park, where he earned his MBA. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling for pleasure with his wife and children.
Janne Clare – Executive Vice President
A seasoned hospitality professional, Janne Clare brings a wealth of experience to Modus Hotels in her role as Executive Vice President where she oversees all aspects of hotel operations including marketing, branding and sales, and revenue management. Janne spent 10 years at Viceroy Hotel Group as Vice President of Operations and in 2012, had a strong desire for an entrepreneurial company culture and was looking to relocate back East. Janne loves the unique aspects of Modus, its entrepreneurial spirit, and the close working relationship she has with the owners. A typical day includes advising general managers on business objectives, developing branding and marketing initiatives, financial and market analysis, collaborating on design and development and recruiting new leaders, all of which she does with tremendous passion and energy.
Assaf Gal – Senior Director: Revenue Management, IT and Digital Marketing
With more than 18 years of experience in the hotel industry, Assaf Gal brings his extensive skills in revenue management to Modus Hotels as Corporate Director of Revenue Management. Assaf’s responsibilities include providing direction to the revenue management team to drive results, work with the hotel leadership teams to instill the revenue management culture and ensure the execution of the brand’s strategic revenue plan. Assaf earned a Bachelor of Arts in Hotel and Restaurant Administration from Washington State University and a Higher Diploma in Hotel Management from the International College of Hospitality Administration in Brig, Switzerland. In his free time, Assaf enjoys spending time on the golf course playing a round or two with friends and colleagues.
Travis Breen – Senior Director: Sales and Marketing
Travis Breen brings a passionate and enthusiastic approach to his role as Senior Director of Sales and Marketing for Modus Hotels. With a track record of success leading sales and marketing teams in multiple Top Tier Lodging markets combined with over 16 years of diverse industry experience, Travis was attracted to Modus Hotels for its entrepreneurial culture and dynamic industry vision.
Travis spent 10 years in Sales and Marketing with Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants prior to joining Modus Hotels and has most recently relocated back to Washington D.C. Travis considers himself to be a hotel geek, culture vulture, world traveler, economist, and dynamic family man all rolled up into one lover of life!
Josh Runes – Director: Digital Marketing and Social Media
With over 7 years of experience in hospitality marketing, Josh Runes brings a great deal of digital marketing knowledge to the Modus team. He joined Modus in June 2015 after working at a digital agency for the previous 4 years. Josh is responsible for the Modus Hotels’ websites, all of the online marketing efforts as well as educating both the brand and hotel teams about digital marketing and working to align offline and online strategies. He graduated from The University of Maryland College Park with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing.
Josh was immediately drawn to the entrepreneurial spirit of Modus, “I wasn’t looking for a job or to fill an open position, I was looking for a company that would help me grow both professionally and as a leader.”
Laura Claggett – Marketing and Brand Manager
As the Marketing and Brand Manager, Laura lives all things Modus. She makes sure the Modus story is told authentically and powerfully across all touch-points of the brand. From the digital world to the physical space, Laura keeps the Modus brand on track while constantly search for new ways to connect with our guests. In the spirit of our “Live 360” core value, Laura leads the Modus Signature “Run This City” program. As our running concierge, Laura found the perfect way to fuse her passion for running, this scenic city, and meeting Modus travelers from all around the world.
Prior to joining the team as Marketing and Brand Manager in 2017, Laura worked for the chairman of Modus Hotels, Conrad Cafritz. Laura earned a B.A. in Classical Studies from the College of William and Mary.
